Drive from your Hotel to Umbwe Gate just after breakfast for registration and kickstart our climb through the Umbwe Route. This will be a hike of 30miles/48km. This route is believed to be the most difficult one among all other Kilimanjaro routes due to its steepness and inclined trail, however, is the shortest and most direct of all to the Mountain Kilimanjaro summit, however, due to unfortunate circumstances that happened in the past the more dangerous route through a western breach on arrow glacial has been closed a necessitate all climbers to join Machame trail after day 2. So this is a route for all adventurous and experienced hikers and not otherwise.
Day 1: Ubwe gate to Umbwe camp.
Distance 11km Time 5-7 Hours Vegetation: Heath
From your hotel, we will be driving up to Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. do registration and other formalities secure our permits and start our trek day one is always beautiful crossing the rainforest scenery and windy, and you will get a chance to get an expert detailed explanation of the existing life of fauna and flora in the forest, The path will take us further to a ridge between two deep valleys up through the dense montane forest and this will be a trek for 5-7 hrs. Then hike up to Umbwe camp for our meal and overnight stay
Day: 2 Umbwe Camp to Barranco camp
Umbwe Cave Camp (2,850 meters) to Barranco Camp (3,900 meters)
Distance: ~6.5km / 3.5 miles
Trekking time: 4-6 hours
Zone: Low-alpine zone
On our second day after breakfast, we will proceed with our trek to a steeply ascending path, along the Umbwe ridge as it declines slightly to Barranco camp situated in the valley for 4-6hrs with a picnic lunch served, our attitude gain and the nature of terrain make the body respond sometimes with altitude sickness you should inform your tour leader/mountain guide in case of any health change for immediate attention
Day: 3 Barranco camp to Karanga camp
Walking distance: approximately 5 km
Duration: 4-5 hours
Altitudes: Barranco Camp 3,970 m – Karanga Camp 3,995 m
Vegetation zone: Alpine Desert
Today we take on yet another steep ridge up the audacious Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley and the junction, which connects, with the Mweka Trail, given the nature of the trail you will appreciate a very short but yet steep cliff toward Karanga camp for our overnight stay here with the approximated time of 5hrs.
Day:4 Karanga camp to Barafu camp
Walking distance: approximately 4 km
Duration: 4-5 hours
Altitudes: Karanga Camp 3,995 m – Barafu Camp 4,673 .
Vegetation zone: Alpine Desert
On the fourth day, we proceed our trek toward Barafu Camp, and once arrived there, we will be done with South Circuit which offers iconic and breathtaking views of the summit from Multiple directions. We will be saved with a night meal and rest as we get ready for a summit at the midnight.
Day: 5 Barafu camps to Uhuru peak (Summit)
Uhuru peak to Mweka camp
Walking distance: Approximately 5 km ascent and 12 km descent
Duration: 8 hours to Uhuru Peak and 6 hours to Mweka Camp
Altitudes: Barafu Camp 4,673 m – Uhuru Peak 5,895 m – Mweka Camp 3,068 m
Vegetation zone: Rock, ice-capped summit, alpine desert
Congratulation we are almost done let’s get excited about what is ahead of us today “reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro Mountain(Uhuru Peak: 19341ft, 5895m)”. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. Very early in the morning, we begin our push to the summit as we reach the magnificent summit sunrise awaits as we take a breath at Uhuru peak “the summit” congratulation you have made it to the rooftop of Africa an incredible 5 days journey to concur Kilimanjaro is a done deal, surely we will take lots of photos and rejoice the on this milestone together. Let’s pose the party and start our descent down to Mweka camp give it a break for lunch at Barafu camp and finally have our overnight stay and meals at Mweka camp.
Day: 6 Mweka camp to Mweka Gate
Walking distance: approximately 10 km
Duration: 3-4 hours
Altitudes: Mweka Camp 3,068 m – Mweka Gate 1,640.
Vegetation zone: Low alpine zone, rainforest
Day: 6 Mweka camp to Mweka Gate
This is we are always great full and show our gratitude by a brief ceremony, appreciation, and team bonding as we say goodbye. We proceed down to Mweka Gate and receive summit certificates, from the gate, a vehicle will meet us at Mweka village to drive back to the hotel in Moshi or Arusha (about 30 minutes/ 2hrs respectively).
